Ingredients
- 1 pint of freshly picked strawberries preferably organic, sliced into thin wedges
- 1 pint of freshly picked blueberries preferably organic, halved
- A handful of freshly picked basil leaves micro or regular, gently torn
- Freshly ground black pepper high-quality
- Fresh lemon zest
- 1 tablespoon of fresh lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon of high-quality extra virgin olive oil
- Edible flowers for garnish like pansies or violets
- Bamboo or metal skewers
Instructions
Fruit Preparation:
- Wash and pat dry the strawberries and blueberries. Slice the strawberries into elegant, thin wedges and halve the blueberries.
Herb Prep:
- Gently tear the basil leaves into small, delicate pieces. Avoid crushing to preserve their aroma.
Assemble Skewers:
- Start by placing a strawberry wedge onto a skewer, followed by a basil piece, and then a blueberry half. Alternate them carefully, paying attention to symmetry and color contrast.
- Continue this pattern until each skewer is artistically filled. Avoid overcrowding for a more refined look.
Create Citrus-Pepper Drizzle:
- In a small bowl, whisk together fresh lemon juice, a hint of lemon zest, a dash of freshly ground black pepper, and extra virgin olive oil. This creates a simple yet flavorful drizzle.
Garnishing:
- Gently place a few edible flowers on the serving plate for a burst of color and an element of surprise.
Serve:
- Arrange the skewers on a chic platter. Just before serving, lightly drizzle each skewer with the citrus-pepper mixture. This not only adds flavor but also an inviting sheen.
Presentation:
- Serve with an additional sprinkle of lemon zest and a light grinding of black pepper for a final touch of elegance.
